Fall Fashion Preview

by snackface on September 2, 2010 · 68 comments

Hello, guys and dolls! I have to be honest here. I have taken zero food photos today. Sometimes it’s just not that interesting and I’m just too busy. Well, part of that was true.

Instead of recapping the day’s eats, I want to share what will be my fall silhouette:

Black and white, natch.

I spent a good chunk of time in H+M on Wednesday. Part of the time I was scooping up pants, eager to try them on, and part of the time I was wondering whether H+M pants sizes run small or the junk in my trunk has grown. I think it’s a bit of both.

Anyway, I am adoring a raised, high shoulder, neat waist and straight leg. Here’s a closer look at the shoulder:

Bathroom chic.

The shirt: H+M, $12. The pants: H+M, $14. Doable.

Is it just me, or is the fall season the best, fashion-wise? I also believe that colder-month clothes can be significantly more figure-friendly:

Booty.

All right, it’s official. It was my a$$ that grew (hollaaaa, Ms. New Booty), not the pants that shrunk.

Ciao for now,

Kailey

QUESTIONS: What is your favorite season to dress for? AND What trend/item of clothing must you absolutely have for this upcoming season?

Summer, without a doubt. I’d live in minidresses if I could!

Fall and winter are by FAR my favorite seasons for fashion… and that shirt is too cute!

I’m with you. Fall fashions beat all. Just covered enough that trouble areas hide away (unlike summer), and you can still wear cute summer dresses, just throw on a pair of tights and a cropped jacket. By the time winter comes around it all gets so bulky that everyone looks like a marshmallow (well they do here in Canada), and I always feel like spring has an identity crisis. It can’t decide if it is fall or summer.

Nope, it’s def that H&M runs super small. I went in there the other day for the first time in a while and needed pants at least 2 sizes bigger. Boooo!

I have to say I’m a summer clothing fan- except I do love boots of the fall variety (not so much on the winter boots). Cute new ‘fit, I’m of the opinion that H&M pants tend to run a little on the small side :) But no matter, we both know size is but a number!

12 Alyssa September 2, 2010 at 9:22 pm

No way, H & M sizes definitely run WAY small!! I can hardly squeeze into pants/skirts there that are TWO sizes bigger than what I wear in other stores.

BTW you look amazing!!

You look so chic!! I love. Summer is definitely my favorite season to shop for. Short flowy dresses are my absolute favorite thing…plus my legs like the breathing room :) This season I’m all about the short stretchy black skirt though. I just bought one at F21 tonight! Hope you have a wonderful night love!!

Fall and winter are definitely my fave seasons to dress for. I just feel more creative. Summer is great, but it’s too hot – I always end up just throwing on a dress and calling it a day. With fall and winter, I put much more thought into accessories and how to pull an outfit together, rather than just throwing something on.

If it makes you feel any better, your butt looks to be about the size of one of my hands.

Well, im going to have to do some research into what the fall seasons holds for me this year. Im all about simplicity with clothes and then bangin on the accessories, so im probabaly going with simple jeans, oversized or detailed cardi’s and longsleeved not too fussy tops. I love fall too, specially wearing nice snuggly boots.

Love the top. I seem to have acquired a collection of a stripey tops lately.

Autumn winter is my fave fashion season. I love buying coats, scarves etc. At the moment I am looking for a new coat. I really don’t need one but feel the need to buy a new one every year. I figure it’s no so bad though if you thnk of cost per wear..

i freakin love stripes, in high school two of my friends told me i dress like a bumble bee, they also said that within 2 minutes of each other. i’m enamored with the audrey hepburn striped shirt+ skinny dark pants combo.

i also wish i had a butt seeing as i suffer from pancake booty syndrome (i foresee a booty pop purchase in my future), hopefully consuming more peanut butter does the trick? ;)

I like to dress for summer. I’m a sucker for sundresses daily. I bought my must-have fall item, and no I’ve never spent $8 on nail polish before. Essie nail polish in Little Brown Dress. I am in love. I love the dark nail polish (is this really one word? I don’t feel like editing or checking) but couldn’t do it because I’m the rare girl who’s neutral dark is brown and not black, so when I saw it in Elle I KNEW I had to have it. I will probably go buy 5 more bottles in case it’s discontinued. <3

I also had to make sure you have listened to Mos Def Ms. Fat Booty http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lFyTzjJDeCk

I never know how far back the rap you listen to goes :)

hey! i feel like everytime i comment on your blog it’s something vaguely critical (well, not critical per se, but something…contrary?!). i want to preface this by saying that i love your blog and have been reading since the beginning. this isn’t a case of “if you don’t like it, don’t read it” because i enjoy reading and think you’re fab! also, i am in the same post-college situation as you so i definitely relate to your posts about those feelings. however….here goes my comment!

i think i commented something about this issue before – talking about sizes/weight/etc. you’ve commented in several posts about pants being too tight/small, whatever, and sometimes your intent isn’t clear. we ALL feel insecure – but sometimes it seems like you feel guilty for feeling this way. your blog is very positive, but these size comments are vaguely disconcerting. it’s like you are feeling bad about it and want to put it out there, but then counter it with something super positive and an “i don’t care!” attitude. i get that it can be weird and confusing to have body issues (don’t we all…), but i think you should evaluate your purpose of mentioning your feelings before you post. you are obviously a slim, gorgeous girl, and while it’s COMPLETELY okay to still have insecurities, you must realise that you are probably in the minority , and that many girls could be reading and thinking “well damn, if THATS a big ass?!?!?!”, because you’re clearly very slim! sometimes it seems like you portray an over-confident attitude about size, yet the fact that you still mention it on your blog shows that you have the same insecurities as everyone else. it’s difficult to read blogs where the person is all “i don’t care!! whooo!!!” when they clearly DO, otherwise they woudn’t mention it. i guess my point is that i’m not sure what your intent was by mentioning about size in todays post. sometimes i think that for those of us who have suffered severe body image issues that it is impossible to simply comment in a neutral manner on changes in your body, so i question where your comments are coming from. girl, if you are feeling insecure (or you had a meltdown in the dressing room) you can own this! or if you’re truly not feeling that way, then perhaps it might be helpful to you and readers to refrain from mentioning it on the blog. i find you to be really relatable, but i also find it hard to accept that a girl who has had issues with this can simply comment on tighter pants without feeling any underlying emotions. perhaps that is me – it’s definitely a struggle to feel neutral about my body – but i also hope you don’t see this as a harsh or critical comment, especially if there might be truth in it. as always, your blog is a source of fun and lightness, and you are usually awesome and responding well to readers comments, so i hope its clear where im coming from!

Reply

42 Whitney September 3, 2010 at 7:47 pm

I think you’re being overly critical. Not to be mean but I think you’re the one who has issues with your body, image, I mean for you to linger over her small comments on the size of her ass?? that’s too much(look how long your comment was!),besides no one else complained about that, just you. Kailey is positive like 99% of the time so do not come in here with your nasty comments!

Reply

43 D September 3, 2010 at 7:57 pm

a blog is a public forum, so everyone is entitled to comment so long as the blogger enables commenting features. theres no rule that says you must agree with every word in order to comment. i personally think that, if i were a blogger, i’d enjoy reading some different, thoughtful comments sometimes, and not just “that cereal looks awesome!” type comments. also, theres no need to be rude, when my comment was perfectly polite! and just because i’m the only one who thinks it, that makes me wrong? is the opinion of twenty more valid than the opinion of one? i’m not going to say the same things as everyone else – im going to say what i think. im not sure why it’s acceptable to leave a nasty comment to me?

Reply

44 Phoebe September 4, 2010 at 12:57 pm

I thought this was a really interesting and thought-provoking comment (and *not* nasty or impolite at all, but as the comment wasn’t directed at me I cannot really judge).

It’s a subject that interests me because I used to be anorexic and, like Kailey, I think that overall I have a very positive, anxiety-free attitude toward how I look and how much I eat, work out etc. But like most everyone I often have moments of insecurity and at some moments have a really hard time refraining from criticizing how I look if I don’t like how I look on a certain day or outfit or something. and as I am fairly thin, I immediately feel terrible if I accidentally do this (aloud) in front of anyone who is heavier than I am. Feeling critical of how you look is something anyone can experience no matter what you look like, which I think you noted well in your first comment. I’m happy to take Kailey’s comments re. body image at their face value, but I still think you raised an interesting point.

Reply

45 sonia September 3, 2010 at 10:34 pm

Just because people haven’t “complained” about the comment doesn’t mean that it didn’t irk them…also, D was not at all nasty about it. She was expressing her opinion and starting a conversation, which is the whole point of a blog!

Reply

46 Virginia September 4, 2010 at 3:38 pm

okay i’m sorry but i read this and had to say something. I’ve read Kailey’s blog for a while now and guess what? you’re right, she is a normal human being with insecurities, as we all are. that is all. I can’t stand it when people try and find the unicycle’s second wheel. it’s silly and a waste of time and energy. if she makes a comment about a body part of hers, it’s because maybe it’s not what she would like it to be, but that’s life, it happens, who cares, she’s moving on with her life. move on with yours. it is what is. like damn, yo.

47 mamaj September 5, 2010 at 11:20 am

Okay Miss D let me give you a little insight as to why thing may sound like they do to you. If you look at earlier pics of Snackface in her about me section there is a big change. She has turned back to that healthy person she was in the early part of high school. Most of her wardrobe is from that period of her life. She is a saver of all things fashion. Besides the fact that she comes from a long line of “noassatall” family she has worked out at the gym and acquired one. Now thats been said, we now need to replace her clothing one piece at a time. She is happy with her body now. Some of her comments about her body are meant to be humorous although maybe over used.

I think maybe Kailey is trying to make the point “Look, my booty is bigger, and it’s okay, I love it I’m not ashamed and we should all do that with our bodies (especially because, hello, our body parts will get bigger between the time we enter high school and the time we leave college and ye GADS this is a long parenthetical).”

I see your point D, I really do, but you have to remember this is a really young woman’s personal blog and pointing out perceived political incorrectness can damage HER almost as much as it can help others. Does that make sense?

When a new H&M was opening up, I casually asked one of the visiting ‘head’ people about their sizing. He replied something about “conversion from European sizes’. A girl that works there later ran up and told me that she is normally a 0, but depending on the cut/style has to buy a 2-3. Love that top!

Heya hottie! Just catchin up on your life… love this look, especially on you. Not gonna lie, this fall is probably going to be just like every other fall for me – big tunics and sweaters, leggings, boots (oh I can’t wait to break out my riding boots again), and lots of black and grey. It never fails. But I am sad to say goodbye to my maxi dresses – I gotta figure out how to work them into fall. At least when it isn’t raining. Ahhhhh!!

There’s this ad in the subway for some fitness program or something, and every time I see it for a split second I think it’s you in the picture and then I realize you’re a lot prettier than the girl in the ad. Mind you, I see this ad every day and have this same thought process every time. I gotta take a picture of it next time.

Sometimes I make comments about my own body just to make comments about my body, I think it’s pretty symptomatic of me being… 23? At a certain point your body becomes less about yourself and more of a vehicle to carry *yourself* in. But at 23, you better believe I still occasionally tell myself, “You are not your body.”

Sure, I think if I hadn’t been reading your blog for a long time before this post, it wouldn’t be irrational to think, “Girl is perhaps coverin’ a few small insecurities through hip hop lyrics and false bravado.” I still think there’s a little bit of fake it ’til you make it confidence going on here, but it’s nothing that I don’t personally do on an everyday basis myself. And that’s something that I’ve noticed in a few of your other posts, as I am going through a similar post-college to work transition.

Of course, that’s as D said, some projecting of my own feelings here, but none of what I’m saying is a *critique* (and neither is, I think, what she’s saying). I wish she hadn’t taken what she said back, because in the fitness blog community, I do not think commenters are especially welcoming to “dissenting voices.” And by “dissenting,” I mean people who are lightly broaching a new and different angle that is different and not necessarily widely supported. I’m not sure why this is, but it’s probably because frequently, but not always, these fitness/healthy living blogs *are* personal blogs and not opinion-editorials. So it’s a sensitive medium, for sure, and one mostly dominated by very loyal readers.

I think I’m commenting as much for my own benefit as for the people who read this post and are going through the same thing. You’ve got a community on your hands, and chances are there are a few people that may feel the same way as me.

I think fake-it-til-you-make-it is how a lot of people get the confidence to go on with their every day lives until it becomes something real that you own, as tangible as the curve in your hips and the strength in your arms.

Transitions are hard, even when you are kind to yourself. And body image is a complex subject, even more so when there have been actual physical changes. So all the more power to you, girl, and I have no doubt that you own what’s yours!

60 Phoebe September 8, 2010 at 3:03 pm

I agree with you 100% Nel – I commented above that I agreed D made a few compelling points. I didn’t view what she (or I?) said as “crazy” in the least and was quite surprised that other commenters viewed it as an attack, esp. as comments on Snackface are often way more reasonable than other blogs’ comments! I DON’T think that D accused Kailey of having low self esteem and faking self confidence. I know that often criticisms are couched as merely “observations,” especially in girl style passive aggression and ESPECIALLY in comments on food/fitness/health blogs, but I think it was really *just* an observation/comment in this case.

I’m not sure how well I conveyed this but I know from personal experience that you can really hate how you look at a younger age, and then have high self esteem about your looks later, AND that even if you do generally have high self esteem this doesn’t preclude you from feeling critical sometimes. I have all of those perspectives on myself. (I’m 23 too and unfortunately don’t yet have that many things to worry about yet in addition to how I look! ;)

Also, having low self esteem is NOT shameful, even if high self esteem about your appearance is a wonderful, happy and enviable thing to have, and I don’t think D or anyone else implied that it was, in fact completely the opposite.
