Just Two Weeks

by snackface on January 19, 2012 · 90 comments

Hi!!! I know no one missed me, but it feels strange to be absent during the week. I, like you, have been going crazy with work, working out, trying to take care of biznass, etc. I keep running out of time!

There’s honestly nothing too exciting from my 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. to share, so I’m left with little motivation to write about it. If only I could share the intimate details of office life…

There has been one wonderful piece of news dropped on me, and I am on a new high. I have an important upcoming modeling job for which I have to be in perfect, non-jiggly shape. I’m not sure how much of it I’m able to share, but I’ll let everyone know as soon as I can.

But back to the matter at hand. I need to train like a muthafluffin champ for the next two weeks. And it’s all a learning process. How do I mix up my workouts for six or seven consecutive days when I’m used to working out only three times a week? How do I eat? I can’t eat what?

I tend to favor the No Carb Left Behind diet.I prefer restaurants with a bread basket.

This is the first time in my life I’ll have laser-focused attention on my body (my moneymaker?). I’ve been given specific instructions to work out every single day for the next two weeks and to steer clear of carbs.

So what did I do the morning after receiving these instructions? Eat oatmeal.

It’s amazing how over the past two years I’ve unlearned all the nasty food rules I taught myself. Truly astonishing. (Even at my worst, I never counted carbs.) But now, for just two weeks, I need to learn a little more balance. Scratch that. I need to learn how to eat the opposite way I usually eat. Balance is a lie at this point.

To ensure I don’t eat this for lunch every single day…:

One egg, two whites egg-rito filled with feta.

Celery and caesar dressing.

…Imma need some help. I have no clue what I’m doing! I’ve already sought a near pro on how to shred your body into jiggle-free shape, but I would love any links to blogs and recipes regarding a low-carb lifestyle.

I keep telling myself: it’s just two weeks. A fun little challenge.

I didn’t want to hide my efforts in trying to cut a little weight for a job. “Why did she stop eating bread? Is she also doing CrossFit now? UGH NOT ANOTHER PALEO!” (Why do those two seem to go hand in hand? I keep seeing this with Facebook friends, real life friends, blog friends.) Don’t worry. I’ll be back to my carbalicious snacky self soon.

Until then, I’m trying something new and perhaps extreme for just two weeks. It’s for a job that is KILLA! I’m looking to model Chrissy Teigen‘s blog for motivation for eating deliciously while getting in model-shape for a job.

That’s that. All my disjointed thoughts on my diet-and-exercise adventure. I am so tired. How do people work out every single day? HOW?

Love to you all!

Ciao for now,

Kailey

Question: Any incredible low-carb blogs or recipes you’d like to share?

6 Amy January 19, 2012 at 11:41 pm

Awesome!! I’m psyched to see this carb-less, over-the-top motivated next two weeks, I think it’s inspiring. Good for you. Good luck!

btw, my friend also did the crossfit/paleo thing for one month, and she lost a crap load of weight and toned up… so maybe there’s some truth behind the hype?

7 Heather @ For the Love of Kale January 19, 2012 at 11:45 pm

Ahh! That’s so rad, Kailey. SO pumped for you! If you’re looking for recipe inspiration, I would totally refer to you Tone It Up. Ahh congrats!!! That is super exciting. I can’t wait to hear all about it since I dreammm of becoming a model myself:)

9 emily (a nutritionist eats) January 20, 2012 at 12:10 am

Green tea, protein like fish, eggs, meat, etc. Lots of greens and vegetables like cucumber and asparagus along with healthy fats (avocado, coconut oil, almond butter, etc.).
Good luck, you’ll be fabulous!

10 Angela January 20, 2012 at 12:22 am

I would recommend going to this forum: http://www.lowcarbfriends.com/bbs/
Tons of info/recipes/support/etc!

11 Cait January 20, 2012 at 1:47 am

Congrats! I did Atkins for a while (while being a vegetarian) and I actually liked how it cleaned up my diet (and by that I mean I was eating too much sugar/candy before)….and I also lost a pound a day (during the induction phase) And have kept it off! I ate a lot of eggs, cheese, veggies of all kinds (except starchy ones), tofu, plain Greek yogurt and nuts. Also I was eating salmon and tuna at the end when I was more pescatarian. My breakfast was usually an omelette, lunch was Greek yogurt and nuts, and dinner was a tofu stir fry with a lot of veggies. Snack – cheese! And more nuts. I counted my calories and still got the same amount(if not more) as before …but the weight definitely came off.

12 Emily January 20, 2012 at 1:55 am

Congratulations, girl! You are going to rock it! That is sooo exciting.
Since I work as an actress and model, I can completely understand and relate to what you’re going through. I’ve been there a number of times. Just focus on variety in your workouts so that you don’t burn yourself out, and so that you don’t overwork any one muscle group. Plus, variety=more fun.
I’ve found that really watching sodium intake makes allll the difference when you’re trying to lose weight quickly. It’s amazing how much sodium we consume, particularly in ready-made foods. Fresh, whole foods are best. Lots of veggies, lots of fruit, and tons of water. (:
I always kind of enjoy the challenge. Especially when it’s something sooo exciting that I’m working towards. I can’t wait to hear more about the job!

13 Grace January 20, 2012 at 2:17 am

Oh girl..it’s good I’m not good enough looking to be a model because I don’t have the slightest clue what I would eat except fruits and salads since I’m meat free…good luck! You’ll do awesome on this challenge!

14 Maya January 20, 2012 at 3:43 am

Well i guess i’m done reading your blog. Your previous anti-”healthy living blogger” propaganda has the effect of making your switch to a restrictive carbless diet–so you can look nice in your one modeling show–look completely hypocritical. This on top of the relentless self-indulgent pictures of your clothes and your makeup are more than enough. Thanks for trying and enjoy your life; you should probably keep blogging about it.

15 snackface January 20, 2012 at 9:56 am

Hey Maya- While “propaganda” is strong, I understand where you’re coming from. Normally, I’d roll my eyes at this, too. However, hypocrisy is hard to avoid as a human. Because I feel it’s unavoidable, I chose transparency in this situation. I’d rather be honest with my readers instead of having them think, “What the hell is up here and why isn’t she acknowledging it?” I’ve often wondered at what point I would change my diet habits for something. Turns out money, opportunity, and a custom-made outfit will do it! As I’ve already stated, this is only for two weeks. That is a blip on the radar.

I ask one thing, just to help me understand: If you don’t like my opinions, photographs and topics, what made you become a SnackFace reader in the first place?

16 Molly January 20, 2012 at 6:18 pm

I just want to say that I’d rather you be honest and say, “You know what? For two weeks I’m going to cut some carbs to slim down a bit for a job.” than have you kind of push it ‘under the rug’ because you were afraid people would see it as talking the balanced eating talk while walking the restrictive walk. & like you said, it’s just two weeks.

Anyway, my point is, congratulations on getting the job!! You will rock it!!

17 Molly January 20, 2012 at 6:24 pm

To be clear, I was saying that I think you are handling a potentiallly touchy issue properly :)

18 Katarina January 21, 2012 at 8:35 am

Who hasn’t lessened the carbs and chocolate in an attempt to look a little better for one specific event? I am a health devotee and medical student for that matter, and I can completely see where Kailey is coming from. Heck I’m doing it right now! My boyfriend is coming into town tonight and I’m eating a salad without bread just so I don’t get gassy while we’re sitting on the couch!! I also know that when I eat chocolate, I tend to break out more than usual, so, boyfriend coming to town = nada chocolate for me! Kailey is still being helpful, but making minor adjustments to her eating and lifestyle in an attempt to look her absolute best in a few weeks. No doubt once this is all over she’ll open the bag of chips again, am I right? ;) While her healthy living stance is strong and position against underweight models is admirable, I still see no hipocracy in what she is doing. And besides, low carb/low gluten diets are found healthier than most carb centered diets (hello much appreciated mediterraniean´!) I would personally recommend everyone to try it for atleast a month and see if their gastrointestinal health improves! Since when is cleaning up ones diet and wanting to improve their physical fitness a bad thing?
Kailey, you’re a beautiful woman whose blog I adore JUST for this very reason! You’re honest and adventures are a joy to follow! Best of luck with this modeling gig and I can’t wait to see the end result! :)

19 VeggieGirl January 20, 2012 at 5:56 am

Once again, congratulations!!! Now I’ve congratulated you on Facebook, your blog, and via text :D

Honestly, I recommend EAS AdvantEDGE Carb Control products. I use those ESPECIALLY before dance competitions and all the time, actually.

Text/message me if you want more information.

20 janetha January 20, 2012 at 3:11 pm

I agree with Liz, the carb control products taste great.

21 Susan January 20, 2012 at 6:39 am

Just two weeks, and it sounds like a great opportunity! Like you said, it’s not like you’re making a lifelong change so nothing to worry about. A lot of people make small ,healthy sacrifices for their careers on daily/weekly bases (I don’t know if lifetime sacrifices are considered healthy). I guess in modelling doing it with your body is the nature of the beast!

I don’t know of any low carb blogs per se, but the only paleo recipe I’ve tried has been a real hit – paleo pancakes. I”ve made them a lot! Just almond flour, an egg, and a few other ingredients. Topped with syrup (and you could use your sugar free stuff!) they are divine.

22 Paige January 20, 2012 at 8:21 am

Obviously dying to know what this job is that you snagged! Congratulations, whatever it is. And good luck with that low carb thing, at least you have a firm end date to motivate yourself to stick with it.

23 chelsey @ clean eating chelsey January 20, 2012 at 8:26 am

Awesome news on the modeling job! Can’t wait to hear more about it.

Good luck on the low carb thing for the next few weeks!

24 Hillary January 20, 2012 at 8:56 am

This sounds like it’s a pretty big deal, so congrats are in order!

If you can find some La Tortilla Factory wraps, you’ll be a happy camper. They are super low in carbs and calories and taste awesome. You can fill them with nut butter, chicken, egg whites, whatever!

25 aubrey (italktofood) January 20, 2012 at 9:37 am

Oh my word, congrats!

I am not a low carb diet lover, but I think the breakfast I have been having is low carb and I LOVE IT.

Nonfat Greek Yogurt with Almond Flour is full of protein, low in carbs and keeps me full!

26 a. January 20, 2012 at 9:45 am

are you sure you need to go low carb? unless the people giving you those instructions were dieticians, maybe you could still eat a balanced diet while trying to shed a few. i’ve found that a low carb diet + lots of workouts = passing out in the shower, so be careful. whenever i try to slim down, i just set a healthy caloric goal and try to meet that each day, still balancing whole-grain carbs, fats, protein, etc. and definitely avoiding alcohol and salt.

27 snackface January 20, 2012 at 9:49 am

a- I really appreciate your concern! I think low-carb is particularly tough for me. For example, I’ve already had fruit today. Oops. But not really. Passing out is the last thing I want to do, and I’ll be sure to still eat enough. I guess I’m resistant to counting anything– carbs, calories, protein, etc!

28 a. January 20, 2012 at 10:41 am

i can understand that aversion to counting! just watch that blood sugar.

and congratulations on such a great opportunity. i’m sure you’ll look fantastic no matter what!

29 Clare @ Fitting It All In January 20, 2012 at 10:16 am

Hey! The last month of Jamie Eason’s Live Fit Trainer is ALL about leaning out before the big day (lots of people use it for figure competitions). It “carb cycles” – less carbs some days, more carbs on higher workout days. It’s absolutely free so you could google it and get some good ideas of meal plans and workouts that could help you look even more bangin’! Also, Janetha’s a pro at it.

30 janetha January 20, 2012 at 3:13 pm

flattered! clare, i sent kailey the livefit phase 3 plan–haha! it totally works.

31 Julie January 20, 2012 at 10:42 am

Ok, I don’t do crossfit, but I love paleo! It will definitely reduce the carb bloat and is in my opinion, a very healthy way to eat. I think these 2 blogs are really helpful and have some great recipes: http://www.theclothesmakethegirl.com/paleo-101/ and http://everydaypaleo.com/

32 Caity @ Moi Contre La Vie January 20, 2012 at 11:01 am

Congratulations! I know people may be less than pleased to hear about a “crash diet” but (1) two weeks of watching what goes into your mouth isn’t the end of the world and (2) we’ve allll done it.

#1 suggestion – WATER. All day.

Good luck!

33 Lauren @ Whole Wheat or Bust January 20, 2012 at 11:20 am

Gosh, I am SO curious as to what this modeling job is!! But no matter who or what – I feel confident that you are going to land that job and rock your shit. I know of a few blogs that may help, (this is annoying but) my blog has quite a few low carb recipes that are easy to make http://www.wholewheatorbust.wordpress.com, and I also find some good ones among skinnytaste.com (ignor the name gf), whatrunslori.com, and everydaypaleo.com.
Anddd I recently have completely built myself an ass from scratch, and the way I did it was heavy lifting. I do squats with the squat rack (grab a trainer to teach you form), weighted lunges with a barbell across my upper back and one leg up on a bench, and the killer kick back machine with lots of added weight (we are talking 170 lbs). And it is KEY to take in a protein shake with at least 25 g protein within 10 minutes of a hard lifting workout. 3x a week!
Good luck!!!!!!

34 Carolyn @HealthKitten.com January 20, 2012 at 11:31 am

That’s awesome news!

I think I’m going to make it a goal to work out every day the next two weeks too as a sign of solidarity! (I need to get my ass in gear anyway)

As far as how to go low-carb…I’m lost. Eating low carb would be the toughest thing ever! Share anything you find, ’cause I should cut back on my carbs too (figures, the night I’m going to make mushroom lasagna I decide to do this…lol).

Good luck, girlie!

35 SweatyGirl January 20, 2012 at 12:13 pm

You’re going to do great.
I think all the shit people are giving you (and Janetha) about this type of thing is ridiculous. People don’t give me crap for being freakishly strict about my eats/exercise, and that is just because I am visibly overweight.
Don’t let anyone decide for you that you’re disordered/crazy/hypocritical just because you want to change. It’s your body not theirs!
So, treat it how you want, and flaunt it! And make yo money, girl! :-)

36 Rebecca January 20, 2012 at 12:13 pm

Congrats on the job, and thank you for being honest about your decision and why you’re making it!

I do find it a LITTLE sad, though, I guess. Normally, I would say you have one of the healthier relationships to food/body amongst the often messed-up world of “healthy living” bloggers. I understand completely your reasons for doing this. However, I also wonder if you’re ever conflicted about taking jobs that require a certain body type. To me, it seems like a contribution to the image-obsessed society that causes so many eating disorders. You are, in effect, portraying an “air-brushed” (in this case airbrushing = carb-reduced) version of yourself that other people will then look to and say, oh, I need to look like that. They won’t know that this is not really something you should aim for on a day-to-day basis.

That’s just my two cents. Still like the blog, but probably won’t be checking in as much for the next two weeks, as some of this stuff can be triggering for me.

37 tessa January 20, 2012 at 2:36 pm

I completely agree with this. I find it sad, especially considering your history.

38 snackface January 20, 2012 at 3:31 pm

Rebecca, I really appreciate your thought-out comment. I completely have conflicting thoughts on fitting into different body types for jobs. There are some things I truly don’t have the shape for, and I don’t strive to nail those jobs. For this one, though, it’s already about embracing a woman’s form. So I’m not overhauling my body– just enhancing curves by tightening everything up, amping the booty, nipping the waist a little and nixing bloat. They already dig what I have, I just need to amp it up a little! I would say that if I were presented with this challenge a few years ago, it would have led me back to my old bad habits. I fully respect your decision not to read as much in the next two weeks.

39 Lindsey M January 20, 2012 at 5:47 pm

It bothers me that people think they have the right to say “Kailey you’re the right size, how dare you start trying to tone up!!” but on another blog where someone is trying to lose some weight for their wedding/ just losing a few to feel better about themselves, people will embrace it and support them. You’re not asking the “healthy blog community” to give advice how to get through starvation, make yourself sick, etc.etc.” you’re simply, as you stated, enhancing/nixing bloat TEMPORARILY..for a job!!…all things that are totally normal and things we strive for to look and feel our best. People need to not necessarily read into things to such a NEGATIVE degree. Healthy living blogs aren’t just about what we put into our bods, it’s also about emotional and mental wellness.. all of it is balance.

40 Melissa January 21, 2012 at 1:13 am

If they dig what you have, why nip your waist and tone up?

41 Jess @ Truly.Into.Fitness January 20, 2012 at 12:33 pm

My GO-TO low carb, high protein breakfast:
Mix 1/2 mashed banana with 1 scoop of protein powder (I use New Zealand Whey) and 1/4 cup of egg whites.

Place on stove top and cook like a pancake.

It makes you FEEL like you’re eating carbs but you’re not. Only 1gr for me as per my protein powder. I drizzle a bit of agave nectar on it and VOILA!!! :) GO-TO amazingly good breakfast:)

CONGRATS on the job!! SO excited to hear more about it:) XOXO

42 janetha January 20, 2012 at 3:16 pm

Hey Jess! That recipe sounds delicious and nutritious, but I did want to point out that 1/2 a medium banana has around 25g carbs and agave has 5g carbs per ounce. Not saying these things are bad.. the recipe is a great one! But if you are trying for low carb, this wouldn’t be the best option. xo

43 Jess @ Truly.Into.Fitness January 20, 2012 at 12:38 pm

that is…without counting the carbs in a banana – but carbs from fruit aren’t as bad as complex carbs :) GOOD LUCK LOVE! XOXO

44 janetha January 20, 2012 at 3:17 pm

hahahahaha.. totally ignore my comment above :)

45 Jess @ Truly.Into.Fitness January 20, 2012 at 4:15 pm

hahah I felt like SUCH a blonde writing the comment above:P Thanks Janetha!!

46 M January 20, 2012 at 12:39 pm

I think it’s interesting that you posted this because I am facing a somewhat similar situation right now. I’m not a model but I have to fit into a very unforgiving costume that JUST fits in the next few weeks. I ultimately decided against purposely altering my eating or exercise in any way, but reading your post made me feel a little guilty for that decision. Then I remembered that I’m not getting paid, and although the costume is rather tight it isn’t revealing at all so I don’t need to be non-jiggly. Your choice may not be the same as mine but I respect it, and I think it was brave of you to share it. I’m also impressed by your strength, since I don’t think I could commit to something like this without being lured back into disordered thoughts or behaviors. Be safe and best of luck with the job!

47 Life's a Bowl January 20, 2012 at 12:42 pm

Congrats on scoring an awesome job, not so much on the carb-free thing haha… I too prefer bread basket restaurants! I’ll eat double the amount of carbs for the next two weeks to make up for you- you know, to make sure the bread industry stays afloat ;P

48 Paige @ Running Around Normal January 20, 2012 at 12:42 pm

hahah, that’s funny. Today before Shane left for work, he asked me: “So where do you want to go to dinner tonight?”

My response was: anywhere that has a bread basket and dipping oil. No carb left behind! ;)

49 Shannon January 20, 2012 at 1:04 pm

Easy, filling low carb meal is some sauteed onions, peppers, tomatoes, mushrooms (anything really) and some chicken beef or shrimp…top with light shredded cheese and serve with a bit of fat free sour cream and fresh salsa or avocado…tortilla-free fajitas!

50 janetha January 20, 2012 at 3:18 pm

You got this! I love you. And I don’t think doing something different with your diet for just 2 weeks is bad at all. Actors do this all the time, for MORE than 2 weeks. I admire your dedication and ambition. XO

51 Lora January 20, 2012 at 3:21 pm

Congrats on the job…2 weeks is nothing! Try spaghetti squash with tomato sauce and veggieballz/meatballs, low carb tortillas, feta/goat cheese and baby spinach omlettes, and my favorite breakfast- plain greek yogurt with stevia and a dollop of almond butter (or any nutbutter). Keeps me full til lunch! GL!!

52 Brigid January 20, 2012 at 3:46 pm

Congratulations! I appreciate you being honest about changes in your diet up front. While I prefer you sassy and snacky (as I’m sure you do), I don’t think anyone would be criticizing you if you were preparing for a wedding instead of a modeling gig. You are handling this with grace.

53 janetha January 21, 2012 at 1:29 am

GREAT point. I like the way you think.

54 K. January 20, 2012 at 4:18 pm

I feel as if while your efforts may be honorable and the money may be worth it, you have to be careful. You are a big fighter against ED’s and over-exercising, but working out every day is doing just that. I have confirmed with a trainer, that it is unhealthy for your body to be put in that situation for 7 days a week. Cutting out any foods is unhealthy. While I appreciate your transparency, true transparency would be saying that you understand that this is not healthy or a healthy mindset. I hope you get back on track.

55 snackface January 20, 2012 at 4:21 pm

Hey K! I do need to be careful, you’re right. I’ll likely take days off because heaven knows I’ll be exhausted if I don’t. I do understand that this isn’t my usual healthy. Healthy, to me, means having a free mindset, especially when it comes to food. I will return to my normal mentality (and it will never fully be gone) as soon as the event is over. Also, this is two weeks of eating fewer carbs and exercising more. That’s all.

56 K January 20, 2012 at 6:27 pm

Being carb free isn’t a “free mindset”. It is in fact the opposite — you are closing off your mind to carbs — which is healthfully in everything from apples and OJ to whole grain bread.

Also, two weeks is halfway to a habit.

And to everyone else’s point..I’d have the same concerns if you were engaged and said that you were going to put restrictions on your diet + over-exercising for a wedding.

57 friendly January 20, 2012 at 4:36 pm

haha-INTIMATE details of your job…hahaha….intimate.

58 snackface January 20, 2012 at 4:44 pm

Well someone caught that, now didn’t they? Haha!

59 anon January 20, 2012 at 4:37 pm

liar. you’ve had LASER-FOCUSED attention on your body most of your life! don’t lie…you can’t retract what you said before about your ED….

60 snackface January 20, 2012 at 4:43 pm

I meant other people will have laser-focused attention on my body. Yes, for a few years I had that focus on it. That’s not the case anymore. There’s no lying here. I was insane about staring at my body in the mirror after every meal. Been there, done that, not going back. I just need to look good in my outfit…for a job.

61 Mary January 20, 2012 at 4:37 pm

So happy for you girl!

Might I suggest ThinkThin bars? 0g sugar and butt-loads of protein.
Best of luck, can’t wait to hear all ’bout it.

62 lindsey January 20, 2012 at 6:25 pm

You are already really quite thin…don’t you think that by trying to slim down, especially in an unsustainable, short-term, quick fix kind of a way, you’re contributing to the environment that pressures girls and women to be ultra-thin, body-conscious, looking a certain way?? Aren’t you supposed to be actively working against that as part of your personal philosophy, as well as your personal journey away from disordered eating and thinking?

63 Nicole @ Giraffelegs January 20, 2012 at 7:11 pm

Congrats and good luck!!! I think you will look great whether you happen to be “jiggle-free” or not!! Plus da boys like the jiggleeeee!

64 Anne January 20, 2012 at 7:30 pm

To the naysayers- you just keep clutching whatever diet book you’re using because you know EVERYONE HAS DONE THIS. I’m so pumped for you and I have done low carb for 2-3 weeks at a time and I always feel super energetic by the end. If you’re in need of a sweet treat, I do some low fat ricotta cheese with a splenda and some unsweetened cocoa- tastes like mousse. I also use EAS protein shakes and ATkins bars are AMAZING and a lifesaver when you want something that satisfies the carb craving. My one thing is make sure you double hydrate to give your little kidneys a break!! Good luck you’ll do awesome.

65 the delicate place January 20, 2012 at 8:02 pm

i’ve been eating paleo for nearly 2 years now and every recipe on my blog is dairy free, gluten free :) i was diagnosed with celiac disease in 2010 and completely revamped. i lost 10 lbs with no effort—i had no idea that those foods were causing chronic inflammation and bloating until i had a complete breakout in hives on my torso and had to take a dose of ‘roids to rid myself of them! from then on, i cut out all grains & dairy and i’ve been feeling great ever since!

i’m not one of those paleo people that think you can’t eat fruit OR that you need to eat a metric ton of meat. i actually eat mostly veggies/fruits, some meat (i have lean protein for lunch and dinner or a protein shake for breakfast i prefer hemp or egg white protein powders). i’m not putting down a 20oz steak or something and i am thriving eating this way. good luck on the gig!

66 Jay January 21, 2012 at 2:34 pm

Paleo & protein powders … sounds like an oxymoron!

Hi Kaylie,
I understand that you’re taking these intense measures for a job, and I also understand that it’s for only two weeks it’s considered no big deal. But I do have to ask you how and why your stance now can be so different than what you were proclaiming when you wrote this:’

“Anyway, after much debate, I have decided to try modeling again with one rule: I am going to do it at the exact size I am now. I refuse to lose weight because that notion is atrocious.

Now, entering modeling again, I know that my body is going to be evaluated by relative strangers. The difference between now and a few years ago is that I’m not willing to change. “

I think losing the jiggle and adopting a low-carb diet goes hand in hand with weight loss, and so you completely contradict what you wrote before. I think you inspired a lot of women and girls with that post back in 2010; you’ve done a 180 now.

Reading the comments here made me sad. So many well-meaning young women offering up their favorite products / plans to “tighten up.” As someone who works with young girls everyday (pre-teens mostly) I am really sensitive to how the modeling industry and the media affect their perception of themselves. Take a look at this: http://www.missrepresentation.org/ to see what I’m talking about. How sad you’re not good enough the way you are.

Alright, all I gotta say is…

Go get it Kailey!

70 Teal January 21, 2012 at 12:20 pm

I would hope that there could be an honest and mature discussion about the topic at hand, rather than referring to those who aren’t all sunshine and rainbows and “you go girl!” as “haters.”

Kailey has more often than not spoken out about loving herself as is and not wanting to change for anything, but then this kind of thing comes along and all that is out the window. How’s that for ideals? How’s that for actually believing in what you write on your blog?

Guess it’s all fake it til you make it, eh?

71 Ashley January 21, 2012 at 3:48 pm

In all seriousness, I understand the ED danger, having recovered myself. I was simply making light of the while situation at hand. Although I’m not a “joke-ster”, I often try to yep back from a situation, take a breath (insert initial comment) and proceed with a slightly more open mind We all do things that others would consider “extreme” in some respect It just takes recognizing that in ourselves and coming to terms with a balance while not picking apart others’ lives more than we’d like for people to nitpick our lives. In short, I believe Kailey is responsible enough to know how to regulate and balance her life- for someone to stop reading the blog CIMPLETELY and go on a binge of criticism seems far more extreme to me than beefing up on your workouts for TWO WEEKS.
So, pardon the offense- just trying to take a larger perspective view, and having a laugh or two along the way.

72 Ashley January 21, 2012 at 3:53 pm

Yikes- typing on my phone.
“making light of the WHOLE situation…”
and
“I often try to STEP back…”
and
“stop reading… COMPLETELY”

Sheesh, typo queen!

So happy for you on the big gig Kailey!!! You are beautiful as you are and it seems they’re aint nothin to tighten or lift from my angle but you’re gonna rock it. In my personal experience- every time I attempt to work out that much I end up getting the flu in a heartbeat, so be sure not to work too hard and rest a lot!!

xoxo

“Now, entering modeling again, I know that my body is going to be evaluated by relative strangers. The difference between now and a few years ago is that I’m not willing to change. This is me. If someone doesn’t like it, they can choose another model, and I do not and will not take that personally. And when someone wants a “curvier silhouette,” I’ll be here, game to model and rock whatever I’m handed.”

Yeah. That’s what I thought.

76 Lily January 22, 2012 at 9:09 pm

OMG YOU CHANGED YOUR MIND – THAT IS ILLEGAL. YOU BELONG IN FOOD BLOGGER JAIL.

You should know better – didn’t you see the warning sign, “We put you on pedestals, but love to knock you down” when you set up this website?

77 humanfish January 21, 2012 at 5:23 pm

smoke weed.

78 cait January 21, 2012 at 5:25 pm

I have to say, Kailey, that even though at first I felt happy for you (see my comment, above….giving low-carb tips….) after thinking about this some more…i just really have no idea why you are doing what you’re doing.

YES, i completely understand wanting to model, and i see how this is an opportunity for you, but at the same time- look at what you have already accomplished – building a SnackFace brand. And a major part of that SnackFace brand is body/self acceptance. And with this one post, you have just COMPLETELY undermined that – undermined everything you have worked toward these past few years. I honestly think you would have more success (say, with womens’ magazines noticing you) if you had a consistent message that actually spoke to women…. rather than just trying out random modeling gigs. It would be a lot more interesting for your readers to read about how you turned down this modeling gig because of the values you have always espoused instead of all of a sudden reading a low-carb CRASH diet journal. I did low-carb because I was overweight. You are doing it to conform to some disgusting male-imagined vision of how a woman SHOULD look. I am really disappointed kailey, and I’m not alone. Its sad to see someone cash in their morals for a bit of cash.

79 Alice J January 21, 2012 at 5:36 pm

you guys are being fucking stupid. don’t judge her because she wants to tone up and not let herself turn into an unhealthy blob. just because she used to have an eating disorder a long time ago doesn’t mean she doesn’t have the right to keep herself in good shape like other people do. it’s a part of life: people gain weight and they wanna cut back and stay in good shape. stop fucking judging her! she’s not going to binge and gorge herself on chips, cookies, burgers and pie to fulfill your warped, twisted, hypocritical desires!

80 cait January 21, 2012 at 6:21 pm

i would call what she is doing right now disordered and unhealthy. when i first read this post, it fed right into my own disordered ED thinking. kailey herself said she is not doing this to tone up and get healthy – its for a modeling job.

other people have already quoted kailey before as saying:
“Anyway, after much debate, I have decided to try modeling again with one rule: I am going to do it at the exact size I am now. I refuse to lose weight because that notion is atrocious.
Now, entering modeling again, I know that my body is going to be evaluated by relative strangers. The difference between now and a few years ago is that I’m not willing to change.”

so obviously, i dont think you or kailey should be all that surprised for these negative reactions.
I also dont think anyone wants kailey to eat doritos all day just to fulfill our own “desires”. i just think that a lot of readers liked her self-acceptance tone; i would venture to say most of us are similar to kailey -we snack on random food and work out a few times a week. that’s not unhealthy – its balanced. and then all of a sudden…this post. it is startling.

81 Alice J January 21, 2012 at 11:36 pm

shut up. like why the fuck would that concern you. it’s her life, worry about your own…after you possibly get one.

82 katy January 22, 2012 at 8:19 pm

thanks for the LOL alice, you’re a real piece of work.

the internet: letting stupid people write things in a public forum since 1994.

83 Angela January 21, 2012 at 5:55 pm

I feel really frustrated with these negative comments you are getting. However, you are handling it with such grace and I really admire that!

Also, PLEASE tell me how you made that egg-rito!!! I must try it asap!

84 Katya January 21, 2012 at 7:20 pm

I find the hypocrisy between the typical stance of “love your body as is” found on this blog, and the previous assertion that Kailey vowed not to change her appearance for a modeling job, as Lucy quoted above, extremely irritating. However, I also find the idea that a two week diet (even a “crash diet”) is “disordered” and totally unhealthy and never not “dangerous” extremely irritating. It’s not that bad. I sometimes try to lose a couple pounds fast if I have some special event or something. I think it’s BECAUSE I have a healthy relationship to food and my body that I can do this without it being “dangerous” or “disordered.” My self esteem doesn’t rest on my appearance and my weight doesn’t occupy my entire mental landscape. I think it’s totally legit to go on a brief diet. I do also think that it’s reasonable for some people who have a more precarious relationship to weight-related emotions and concomitant self esteem or disordered eating issues to completely avoid any kind of behavior that resembles restricting. However, this isn’t the case for everyone and we should recognize that.

I think low carb is kind of stupid and pointless though, I think just cutting calories is much better. If I’m trying to lose weight fast I just eat mostly lentils and brown rice or soup for a while.

85 Sarah January 21, 2012 at 8:19 pm

This is a delicate topic, but I like how you are honest about things. I know come January, I like to start training for a race, something that makes me feel healthier. In general, I LOVE dessert. I eat it every single night. I bake more than any of my friends. However, I accept that and try to eat plenty of veggies, protein, and whole grains during the day. If I deprive myself of something, I’ll just want more of it. So, just having a little bit each day keeps me satisfied. Not sure if that’s a tip? Hahaha. I think you look fab and eat great, so good luck with everything! (Also, love Chrissy’s blog. Her fiance is from my hometown. He’s adorable.)

86 Ashley January 21, 2012 at 9:35 pm

In general, cutting back on carbs means you will need to up your good fat intake. I do not think you are fat averse like some people, but just a reminder!

For lunch and dinner, think protein + a green veg + salad. Jazz it up with salsa, hot sauce, etc. snack on things like non starchy veg, hard boiled eggs etc. it’s best to get the carbs you DO eat in pre and post workout, when they are utilized more efficiently by the body. Berries are a good lower carb, nutritious fruit.

87 Mary January 21, 2012 at 9:57 pm

TOTALLY don’t get what all the fuss is about…its perfectly fine to want to tone up! Reading these comments someone would think you posted that you want to lose 30lbs in two weeks or something, lol.

Kailey, I have no doubt that you will do what feels good and is best for your body in order to achieve your goal and I am so excited for you! Work it :-)

88 Shelley January 21, 2012 at 11:15 pm

Kailey,

not that you need another opinion, but as a long time reader I have to comment and say that I think you are doing nothing wrong. Yes, part of me feels some “trigger pangs” (haah) when i read about this (but that is my OWN issue), I do not see anything wrong with taking this job. You are human and you’re not going to always be able to take every job that fits “exactly with your morals.” this job doesn’t even seem THAT extreme… it seems like a good opportunity. GOOD LUCK- you will be great!! and i hope you tell us what the gig is soon haha

xoxox

89 Lilly January 22, 2012 at 12:11 am

I think you should read about the Dukan diet. I think there is no harm in expanding our knowledge on diets that are out there and promote healthy living and can be great for shaping up in a short period of time. Im not trying to promote anything just trying to be helpful and advising bases on my own personal experience with the diet (which loved :)

90 Lily January 22, 2012 at 9:02 pm

I’ve been reading Kailey’s blog forever, and I think the crucial point that everyone’s missing is that this website is just that – a blog. Not a physician’s website, not a self-help website, not an eating disorder help website, not a support group for women with body image issues, and definitely NOT a place where the author claims to be perfect and know what’s best for you and your body – just herself and hers.

Kailey has NEVER tried to present herself as an expert, a certified anything (until her patent on ‘Snack Master’ goes through) or anyone qualified to give advice and/or represent the ‘ideal’ nutrition/health/fitness goals for anyone.

It’s fine to start a discussion and raise valid opinions – god bless free speech and internet anonymity – but please try and take a deep breath and really think about what type of website you are posting on before freaking out on some girl who wants to look good for a modeling job. You are not on webmd.com or oprah.com.

Kailey blogs about her friends, work, her dogs, family, graduating from college, snacking, etc. – she does not blog in a professional community or submit her opinions and life choices as law. This blog is entertaining and I read it for entertainment – I know that some people could argue that by making her blog public, she is naturally going to become a role model for some women and she needs to face and accept that responsibility. But let me tell you, if I had a 14-22 year old daughter, I would rather have her read about Kailey’s efforts to moderately tone-up, than Miley/Lindsey/Mila and their latest starvation diet to fit into a bikini/dress/tutu… I mean, Black Swan was great, but really? Everyone looks SO HUNGRY.

In conclusion, think what you will about Kailey’s two week boot camp. But maybe don’t post about it while simultaneously going to a gym that offers a ‘Boot Camp’ class? Let those who live in glass houses, clean their windows first… or something like that :)
