Holla! Before I get into anything else, I have to take care of this. The winner of the Love Grown Giveaway is #159, Casey! Ms. Casey said:

The meal I never skip is dinner.. It relaxes and calms me to stop the whirlwind and concentrate on one task: making something delicious and nutritious!

Casey January 13, 2012 at 1:49 pm

I also tweeted about this giveaway!

Casey, doll, please email me your address and I’ll have delicious granola on your way!

So today. Monday. I’m always amazed by how sore my upper back gets within three hours of sitting at a computer. These are the serious thoughts that run through my mind. I wasn’t thinking about it yet while I ate breakfast in a cozy, overly cushioned armchair.

Why, yes, I'd love sunbutter with a side of yogurt.

I’ve been making a habit of taking vitamins and supplements every single day. Usually, I buy bottles and take a pill once. Game over. But not anymore!

Biotin, Kirkland pack of everything, Iron and B12.

I was buzzing all morning. It was either the B vitamins or the French press coffee.

The day commenced with phone calls, writing, researching, brainstorming, etc. I snacked throughout it all, as I am wont to do.

Cucumber and string cheese. Gourmet.

If you want to be kind to your taste buds, do not buy this flavor.

I ate lunch while in a meeting, so no pic of that. No pic of the emergency Luna I ate in approximately 37 seconds at 4:33 p.m., either.

After work, I drove to my BFF’s. By that, I clearly mean the gym. Is anyone else unusually antisocial at the gym? Everywhere else, I’m ready to strike up a conversation with anyone. At the gym, though, I want no one to talk to me as I grunt, huff, puff and sweat my lady bits off. I’ve been going to the same gym for several years now, and I don’t even know the staff members’ names. That’s kind of wrong, isn’t it?

Actively avoiding eye contact with any other human being, I ellipticized for 4 miles while doing some major intervals. Followed that up with 20 reps each of bench press, chest flyes, dumb bell press (all three while on balance ball in a bridge), dips, push-ups and calf raises; no rest between sets; completed three times through, total. I’m currently having a difficult time raising my arms to type.

The second I walked into the door at home, I made a protein shake. The whole protein-shake-immediately-post-workout thing is new to me, but I’ve wanted to try a certain protein powder for years now.

Unsweetened almond coconut milk (yes, it does exist!), vanilla Sun Warrior and a teeny bit of stevia makes for a cake-like shake.

I was relieved more than anything. There have been many times in which I’ve tried new protein powders, taken a big gulp or bite (depending on preparation) and gagged. “Dirt? Earth? Nature? Is that what this is?” Sun Warrior is, thankfully, a different story. It blends easily, creates a nice froth and reminds me of store-bought vanilla cupcakes. (That last one is a good thing.)

I showered up— struggling to lift my arms the whole time— and headed back to the kitchen for dinner.

Head of lettuce, red bell pepper, smoked gouda and chicken burger. Dressing made of chipotle hummus, balsamic and water to smooth it out.

MamaJ just started I Don’t Know How She Does It. I’m completely distracted now. SJP is my girl. Still. Always. Forever.

OK, loves, I’m out of here! OH! Wait. I bought coconut flour because I keep seeing incredible recipes, and now I can’t find those incredible recipes. I’d love a link to any recipes you’ve tried and enjoyed using it!

Now I’m out. Scatterbrained and it’s only Monday. Yeesh!

Ciao for now,

Kailey

Questions: Do you like talking to others at the gym or do you keep to yourself? Do you know the staff? I’m wondering what’s proper gym etiquette here… I smile and say quick, “Hi! Fine, thanks!” but that’s the extent of it.

**Apparently, I wrote a post with the same title not so long ago!

I love coconut flour pancakes. This is off the top of my head, but I usually do a scoop of protein powder, 2-3 tablespoons of coconut flour, vanilla extract, stevia, baking powder, 1 whole egg, and almond milk to thin it out. It’s beyond easy and so delicious, especially with toppings like fruit, greek yogurt, almond butter, classic maple syrup, or chocolate chips.

I have a bag of coconut flour that I used once and will definitely take advantage of whatever suggestions you’re given. I’m super anti-social at the gym – it’s my “me” time.

I always say a polite hello when I enter the gym but I rarely ever have a conversation. I do know some of their names, but the staff has changed quite a bit over the years.

I go to the gym really late… as in, it closes at 11pm and that’s when I leave… so one day I asked the check-in guy “what IS your name?”

now i walk in and say “hey freddy”… it makes me happy for some reason haha

I’m usually pretty social at the gym which is largely due to the fact that I take classes on a regular basis, and am almost always there at the same times. I see the same group of people and have grown to be pretty good friends with a few of them. Plus, I love the instructors at my gym. They’re all amazing!
But, when I’m on the elliptical or treadmill, I don’t want anyone bothering me. I’m in my own little world.
I just did a post on vitamins! I take a multi, biotin, b12, vitamin C and D, and calcium- that reassures me that I’m getting all of my necessary nutrients. (:

I’m always friendly to the front desk people but after that not much more. It doesn’t help that my gym has several locations which I hop around from so it’s never the same faces. But even in college & back home the gym was my “me time” and I was never super chatty. Headphones kind of help that.

Hey Kailey, I’ve been reading your blog for like, two years now and since you didn’t eat meat before, why are you adding it back into your diet? There are so many great vegetarian protein sources! I just had TJs veggie meatballs and they were delicious :) Did you start to feel sick after not eating meat for so long? I’m always curious how that works. I’m a vegan because I have IBS, but I wonder how the body reacts when you re-introduce something like that.

Katie, great question! I am fully aware of all the delicious non-meat options (especially those TJ’s meatless balls!), and sadly, after having eaten them for years, my body started to reject them. As in crippling intestinal pain and discomfort every time I ate soy, tempeh, vital wheat gluten, beans, etc. I have experienced no nausea or problems digesting animal proteins thus far, and I’m feeling eons better. I haven’t tried red meat; I’ve stuck to turkey and chicken thus far and feel great. Whatever works for you, do it! :)

I would love to know what you think of that milk. I was going to buy it, but wasn’t sure if it would be any good. I usually drink the almond breeze unsweetened vanilla which I highly enjoy!

It’s delicious! The coconut flavor is definitely present, and it has the slight almond flavor as well. Highly recommended. Best when sweetened a bit, though.

I’m terrible at remembering to take vitamins; like you I would buy a bottle but just take them once. The only thing that really motivated me to take them regularly is when I got my ears pierced and they told me I should take a daily multivitamin to help them heal faster. I do have a thing of B vitamins sitting around and I could definitely use the energy boost lately, I have to remember to take them!

20 sets?! I hope you weren’t doing too many reps! I usually do 4 sets of 8 for upper body exercises haha. And I NEVER want to talk to people at the gym, mostly because even though I go to the gym and I’m super nice, I still have this silly stereotype in my mind that ‘gym-people’ are meathead d-bags…totally irrational. The only thing I’ve made with coconut flour is smoothiegirl’s “microwave protein muffin,” which is really good.

16 snackface January 24, 2012 at 9:52 am

AHHH!!! Hahahaha I meant 20 reps, three sets. Hilarious. Editing that NOW. Oooh need to check on that recipe. Do you have a link to it? Thanks!

Sorry, I forgot to check back to see your response! I’m glad you found the muffins…I think they’re awesome. Also, if you’re in need of a low-carb bread fix, I highly recommend Trader Joe’s sprouted breads; they’re only 60 calories per slice, with 5 grams of protein, and they have a really good chewy texture.

My gym staff knows me, and the owner shouts out my full name (first and last) with a big smile every time I walk in. We chat it up for about a hot second, and then I turn into the most antisocial person who has ever walked this planet. My dad goes to the same gym, and I’ll barely even hold a conversation with HIM when we’re doing cardio side-by-side (which, yes, we do quite often). I just want to get in, do my thang, and get the hell out!

21 SweatyGirl January 24, 2012 at 9:25 am

When I would go to a regular gym, I was the same way. No eye contact. No hellos. Just in, sweat, out.

Now that I go to a personal training gym, it forces me to be chatty and sociable with the trainers and other clients. It’s nice!

22 Caity @ Moi Contre La Vie January 24, 2012 at 9:29 am

I am with you 100% – Don’t you see me sweating and making faces and turning red? Not a good time to chat, thanks. Personally I’m of the opinion that if you can carry on a full conversation at the gym, you’re not working out hard enough…

P.S. Sun Warrior is AMAZING.

The two bottles are, indeed, from Whole Foods. The vitamin packets are from Costco– they take the brainwork out of it!

Hmm, I’m betting the SW Blend blends (ha!) a lot better than the original vanilla SW. I like the taste of it, but it’s a wee bit chalky for a protein shake made with just milk and pp. I’ll have to try the Blend!

I love coconut flour…I was on the same mission as you last week (looking for recipes) and this is what I found:

1. No Bake Vegan PB Balls (holy YUM): http://www.loveveggiesandyoga.com/2010/04/no-bake-vegan-peanut-butter-chocolate.html

2. Mamey Cakes (I made with pumpkin):
http://xcfoodie.com/?s=%22coconut+flour%22

3. The infamous microwave protein muffins from Deb at:
http://www.smoothiegirleatstoo.blogspot.com/2010/11/moist-low-calorie-microwave-protein.html

I also just add a bit of sweetener and liquid (almond coconut milk would be great!) and use it as a spread on oatmeal, protein muffins, etc.

Hope this helps! Love your blog, girl.

Mmm if you didn’t know that was yogurt and sunbutter, it kind of looks like ice cream and caramel sauce… or maybe that’s just where my head is at this morning?! Very excited about the new almond-coconut milk!! I need to find that! And yuck- I’ve mistakenly got that think thin flavor too- the only actually good one in my opinion is the White Chocolate one- and I don’t even like white chocolate. Oh, and when I’m at the gym I too try and avoid eye contact!

those thinkthin bars are. the. worst. they all just taste like chalk and chemicals.

31 Katya January 24, 2012 at 9:33 pm

I actually really like the chocolate peanut butter flavor of those. Kind of embarrassing name though and it’s a little silly because they’re somewhat higher in calories than other energy bar options. I also find that they actually give me solid energy for exercising. I used to eat them before I’d do my extra long swim workouts and they really work.

Reply

32 Brigid January 24, 2012 at 3:16 pm

I don’t really socialize at the gym, but then I don’t do much of it anywhere except at work. I do like taking exercise classes, though, so that tends to force at least a little interaction.

My dinners as of lately look totally similar to your salad bowl [except swap in turkey meatballs] :) Ehhh, after a not-so-friendly encounter a few weeks ago my outgoing [talk-to-anything that breathes and walks] personality has become a little hesitant of talking to randoms at the gym… Actually shared the story yesterday! Staff is a different story, they’re there to do their job so a short convo is always welcomed :)

For some reason, although I love and thrive in social situations, I am very very unsocial at the gym. Something about having in depth conversations with people while I’m sweating like a man just doesn’t seem pleasant to me!

I always keep to myself at the gym! Sometime I will go with friends or family members, but other than that I just do my thing and dip out. My gym is pretty popular where I live, so if I ever see people I know, I definitely (but politely) try to avoid a conversation while I’m beet red and sweaty. :)

This question is awkward and possibly inappropriate but that’s my entire life so here it goes: in one of your recent posts, you mentioned that you have 32D boobs. What kind of sports bra(s) do your wear? I have 40D boobs and always have to wear a regular bra under my sports bras and it’s annoying (and not to mention gross).

Reply

44 snackface January 25, 2012 at 11:42 pm

I have one HELL of a time finding sports bras that work that aren’t $60-$80. I end up buying size large sports bras, but then they gape at the bottom. Sometimes I wear two at once. What I’m saying is that I haven’t found a solution, either.

Reply

45 Anne January 28, 2012 at 2:45 pm

I too am small around (32) but have a larger chest (why is cup size such an icky phrase?) – anyway my sports bras wouldn’t be tight enough around or would be too tight on my chest….I stopped the insanity and bought Moving Comfort bras and got them tailored to fit right. It ain’t cheap but I’ve had the same ones for two years and they still fit perfectly. Its worth it!
