Hello, hello! It’s a good thing that before I headed into the craziest week of my career thus far, I had a weekend of college proportions.
My absolute best friend in the entire world, Muffin, flew into Columbus from NYC on Friday the 13th for a reunion weekend. We wasted no time once arriving in Athens. Tunes up, curling and straightening irons on, drinks poured. Ready.
The progression (regression) throughout one hour was notable.
To…
In every bar we visited, we heard one “cultish, chant-like song” (hilarious description), We Are Young. The irony of 18-22 year olds (and myself) singing every word of We Are Young with vigor was laughable but wonderful.
The next morning, I felt like the bottom of a shoe. For the love of all things good! I was in pain. How, how, did I do this three nights a week in 2010? HOW?
I practically fell face-first into a pile of tortilla chips at 2 p.m., when we summoned a scant ounce of energy.
Muffin, DM and I dined luxuriously at hole-in-the-wall Casa Lopez. It’s the best.
Muffin and I then spent the rest of the day watching mindless t.v. and eating gummy bears. Basically, it was a perfect afternoon.
In the evening, we prepped for an alumni event at which we stayed for only 30 minutes. Whatever. You leave when people shake their heads at your totally not-too-short shorts.
And we feasted, round two.
Bar food: salad, pizza, fried pickles, pretzel bites, bread sticks. And I said, "Hell yeah, hell yeah, hell yeah." #HYFR
Of course, things went from sweet to rowdy again.
The girls:
Into the wee hours of the night, we danced, talked page layout, got emotional about fonts, and took penis colada shots.
The next morning, we felt fantastic. We’d done what we set out to do: have a flipping blast. We chatted about the weekend’s happenings over brunch.
Afterward, we trotted around uptown, searching for “hippie jewelry” and anything interesting.
It was the best weekend of 2012 thus far. I felt alive and like my old self…and then I had the first 80-plus-hour workweek of my life. It figured. Work hard, play hard. We are young anyway, right?
Ciao for now,
Kailey

FUN!!! your pictures of crazy nights look just like mine when I am with my girls!! which will be happening here very soon…as Lori’s wedding gets closer! we have 4 days of party time…
ahhhhh love, love, love this! but seriously, how did I do it three nights in a row in college? one night out these days, and i am on.my.ass.
so glad you survived your cray cray week! can’t wait to catch up and hear all about it.
p.s. I just retweeted that vintage Kanye tweet about fonts. how I missed that is beyond me. thank you.
What a fun weekend! I love the not-too-short shorts (without meaning to sound creepy). That bar food looks ridiculously good. Bar food just hits the spot, big time.
Looks like a great weekend with friends! Bar food after dancing is always the way to go.
what a weekend! Fortunately I’m still living those days right now for one more month until college is over for good, eeeeek!
I actually find that song more relevant now (at 25) than I ever would have at 18…I know it’s a little cliche, but I can’t help being inspired every time I hear it! Also, your white short/black jacket/chevron-ish print look is perfect. Love it. I’m a thousand miles away from my best friends and can’t wait to have this kind of weekend soon!
Yes! I also went to town on Huevos Rancheros this weekend! Best brunch food ever- and We are Young will most definitely be the theme song of this summer; such a great tune to belt out to
Blah-dee blah-dee blah, hmmmm… Well I got engaged this weekend! In the mountains! And it was gorgeous and awesome and totally unexpected!
Annnnd now I miss my best college girlfriends.
Highlight of my week? My LDR boyfriend is coming home on Thursday; I haven’t seen him in three weeks, and we are WELL overdue for a visit!
Face first in chips and salsa. My kind of friend
I had an AMAZING time at my BFF and future sis-in-law’s bachelorette party in AC. Strippers, limos and laughing like I never have. I’m stillll waiting to get my voice back
I am so sooo glad you all had an amazing weekend Kailey!! You all look like you are filled with nothing but pure happiness.
I am more than ready for this school year to be over. haha. I will be done by Friday and can.not.wait. to go see my favorite faces (my family). Then a week later it is my birthday! I am so excited for summer, I have a feeling it is going to be my best yet….I am going to make it happen. haha. And I am sure you are too!
what a weekend you had! I’d love those chips and salsa. I swear to all mighty, chips and salsa are heaven sent.
Add guac to that mix up and I’d be set.
Life lately has been surreal. I’m completely in love and in turn, in love with being in love. I spent the weekend relaxing with my beau and that’s exactly what we both wanted to do after a very busy week.
Your project at work sounds pretty freakin BIG and exciting. Woohoo!
Aubrey, I love that you’re so in love with being in love. It’s a really beautiful phase…the very start of things and when you finally surrender to those feelings.
Fun weekend! Loving those brunch pancakes! They look delish! ALso, where did you get that pink striped dress?! Love it!
Thanks, Kaila! I bought the dress at Forever 21.
Awwww, now I miss college! But seriously, I’ve been missing it hard lately. Waking up at 11 a.m., meandering to class, going to the gym, and going out? I’d give anything or a week of that nowadays. Looks like a perfect weekend, especially before a crazy work week. Get it girl!!
I’ve been….alright. Figuring things out. What matters is that life is good, and we’re really lucky to be young and exactly where we are. I tell myself that often, because I tend to forget.
Evan, we are really lucky. I need to remind myself of that constantly, too. P.S. I listened to your playlist today! (One on a recent post of yours…it was fab.)
That looked like a great way to kick off an insane week! I headed up to Sea Ranch on the Sonoma Coast for a similar weekend – lots of food, lots of booze, lots of games…
P.S. I like the white shorts!
Caity, what a weekend YOU had! That sounds tasty and perfect!
It took me about 10 seconds to realize that that girl was indeed not carrying a human head, but a little dog. Seriously.
Hahahaha, Katie, I am cracking up!
Omigosh this sounds like such a fantastic weekend with your bestie! I love the progression of pics from the start of the night to the end! Haha mine always go that direction too. And I’m impressed you were able to go out after feeling like death on Saturday– I don’t think I would have been able to rally! It gets so much rougher now that we’re older, doesn’t it?? I used to be able to go out night after night in college! But hey, we’re still young so it’s good to have weekends like this– mine is going to be very similar to yours this weekend and I couldn’t be more excited!
What a fabulous weekend! Way to live it up. #YOLO
Kailey, I saw this social media, journalism job in Manhattan that made me think of you. Not sure if you are still considering the city but FYI http://greatist.com/team/greatist-is-hiring-full-time-staff-writers-042512/.
You are a talented writer!!
Elyse, thank you so much for thinking of me and passing this along! It sounds right up my alley!
I saw FUN perform We Are Young a few weeks ago and it was the first show I’ve ever been to when the audience was LOUDER than the band. my ears were ringing for hours afterward. that song is catchy, though!
Ahh what a killer weekend. I’m getting terribly sad that my own weeks of partying three nights a week and just livin’ the college life is soon coming to an end (this past month has been craaaazy, sista needs sleep but is having the time of her life)… good to know i’ve still got plenty of crazy, drank-filled, lazy, delicious weekends with close friends to look forward to
Chips & salsa is always a good idea. And your hair is seriously the cutest! Perfect for you.
Ohh yeah smokin a fattie
)) who rolls the blunts? We roll the blunts. You and your friend look like jay and silent bob. I’m looking at your food cause I’m high and tried looking up huevos rancheros. That shit looks dank as hell teehee
oh my god. they LITERALLY have the same hair!
